Design & Technology
Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject at Downham C of E Primary School. We encourage our children to think creatively, take risks and solve problems both independently and as part of a team.
At Downham, children use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. They are encouraged to consider their own needs and the needs of others, developing an understanding of values, purpose and function. Wherever possible, we make meaningful links with other disciplines including mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
To ensure high standards of teaching and learning in Design and Technology, we implement a progressive curriculum across the whole school using the Kapow Primary scheme of learning. Design and Technology is taught through cross-curricular termly topics, focusing on the knowledge and skills outlined in the National Curriculum.
Through a range of creative and practical activities, children develop the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in an iterative process of designing, making and evaluating.
