PSHE & RSE

What is PSHE?

At Downham Church of England Primary School, our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, including Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), is a vital part of helping our pupils grow into confident, caring, and responsible individuals.  We follow the Kapow Primary Scheme of Learning, a high-quality, age-appropriate and inclusive curriculum that meets all government requirements.

Our teaching reflects our values of:
Challenge • Creativity • Collaboration • Critical Thinking • Courage

We also promote the British Values of:
Democracy • Rule of Law • Individual Liberty • Mutual Respect • Tolerance

How PSHE and RSE Reflect Our Christian Ethos

Our curriculum is grounded in the belief that all children are unique and valued by God. We aim to develop pupils who are:

  • Thoughtful, kind, and resilient

  • Able to build loving, respectful relationships

  • Empowered to speak up, show forgiveness, and make wise choices

  • Ready to contribute positively to their community and wider society

Why is PSHE education important to children and young people?
  • PSHE education equips children and young people with knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive, fulfilled, capable and responsible lives.
